Write it like it is worth reading
The default says thanks for subscribing, which is polite and does nothing. The subscribers who stay are the ones whose first notification gave them something: the discount they were promised, the guide they came for, the one article that explains what you do.
It is also the only message you can be sure lands with someone paying attention. They opted in a second ago and are still on your site. Point it somewhere that earns the permission they just gave you.
Want more than one message?
The welcome notification is one message, sent immediately, free on any plan. An automation is the other end of that: wait five minutes or five days, send, tag the person, branch on what they did. If you want an onboarding sequence rather than a greeting, that is the tool. And it is a paid feature.
One warning worth reading twice: if you turn on the welcome message and run an automation triggered by new subscribers, both fire. Pick one.
